Abstract

This work describes a project of physical modelling water supply structures for a Water Supply and Sanitation course in Civil Engineering, which pursues to promote the spatial skills of students, since all activities are usually performed in a sedentary way in the classroom and in desktop workstations. The theoretical framework explains the need to expose STEM students to activities that reinforce their spatial skills, such as building 3D objects based on blueprints.  A descriptive research methodology of the design, building, and installment steps for a small water supply system on campus is shown.  Conclusions reflect on the results achieved by the students, their opinions on the project experience through a perception survey, and the possibility of keeping physical modelling in the course curriculum.
