Competency assessment is a field of study with extensive production on standards, reference frameworks and technological implementations in different disciplines areas, which are evaluated mostly from a methodological perspective. However, there are few contributions that allows us to evaluate the potentials and challenges that its implementation implies considering the involved sociocultural factors (beliefs, values and comprehensions); understanding assessment practices as actions that shape the social fact of education. The present work reflects about some of these topics from investigating a sample of actors of the evaluation process in the Systems Engineering Program at Universidad El Bosque, in order to evaluate the current practice of learning's assessment, and to recognize the challenges and opportunities that must be taken into account for the competencies' assessment system implementation
