Student retention in higher education institutions is a challenge that transcends universities and public policies of Ministries of Education. The complexity of the phenomenon of student dropout as complementary to student retention requires several modeling techniques. The aim of this paper is to show the analytic hierarchical process (AHP) as multi-criteria model with the goal of prioritizing students according to the propensity to stay in higher education, considering as criteria the determinant factors related to dropout formulated by the Ministry of National Education of Colombia. A case study was used to illustrate the process and the consistency test for pairwise comparison matrices and criteria. Subsequently, students were ranked in propensity to stay in each factor according to vectors of priority, also determinant factors were ordered depending on their subjective importance and a general classification of students according to propensity to stay on all determinant factors was obtained.Downloads
