A teaching method for the solution of problems is proposed, which is oriented to directly relating variables of interest to the available information in each case. The objective is to strengthen the student’s capacity of facing complex problems where different topics are combined, also, increasing the student’s ability to identify the adequate method or theory which should be used in each specific scenario. Through a case study the complete and detailed solution of an exercise from the Dynamics course. In addition, the generalization of the method is presented by its application to an exercise of the Mechanics of Materials course. It is concluded that, the main advantages of the proposed method are: the deepening of the engineering base concepts, the detailed analysis of the logical solution of a problem, and the possibility to implement the method by slightly adjusting the traditional teaching tools.
