Abstract

In this paper a Web Assessment System developed in the University of Valle (SEUV) is described. The main system characteristics are: 1) it was proposed as a virtual education support tool, 2) it allows a formative assessment of students, 3) every item repository is classified under specific and transversal competences, and 4) it permits establish a relationship between the university curricula knowledge hierarchy and the thematic areas defined for the ECAES tests (Colombian High Quality and Education Tests). The architecture of this system consists of 5 sub-modules, where each one is responsible for different stages in the assessment process. The application tool was proved in the execution of tests in courses, of the EISC (School of System Engineering and Computation) and in the ECAES simulation tests.
