This article describes the experience and pedagogical reflection derived from the use of Aspen Plus® software to solve an academic problem related to chemical reaction engineering in the context of a course in the chemical engineering program at the University of Antioquia. The context of the experience is described, different solution strategies for the problem are detailed, and the salient aspects observed by students when trying to solve it are analyzed. The article concludes with a reflection on the pedagogical experience, highlighting some elements that may be important when using the software as a pedagogical tool in this or other undergraduate courses. As an added value to the contribution, a step-by-step guide for the use of the software's analysis tools (sensitivity analysis) is provided, which can be used as reference material by students with basic knowledge of the technical use of the software.Author Biography
