Visualización, experimentación y discusión: estrategia didáctica en la enseñanza-aprendizaje de la mecánica de materiales

En este paper se propone una metodología para facilitar el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje de Mecánica de Materiales en cursos de ingeniería. La metodología fue empleada durante seis periodos académicos en el programa de Ingeniería Civil en la Universidad de Ibagué. Comprende tres etapas: observación de fenómenos, ecuaciones constitutivas y experimentación. En la primera, los estudiantes observan los fenómenos relacionados con los tópicos a estudiar, en la segunda, profundizan en la conceptualización teórica y realizan deducciones matemáticas y en la tercera, los estudiantes elaboran modelos físicos y matemáticos que les permiten medir deformaciones lineales y calcular esfuerzos y propiedades mecánicas. La metodología fue implementada como un intento de reducir los altos niveles de deserción y número de estudiantes reprobados que se presentaban en la universidad, ante un enfoque metodológico tradicional de clases magistrales. Como resultado se consiguió una reducción en la deserción y un mayor rendimiento académico de los estudiantes.Descargas
